Another year in the Baka Inaka

So I just started my third year, here in the countryside of Japan, that so many of us call-- the Baka Inaka, a.k.a. Fukui. Obviously, it's not so bad-- or i wouldn't have stayed so long. So get ready for more pics, comments, and bitching about my life here in Japan.

Recap and Updates

So true to my usual self- I sorta got busy and bored with blogger and moved on to new things- as in Facebook, my newest obsession. It seems I haven't posted anything since October. Well either way-- it's been a while.

Things are getting to be ok. I've been in a bit of a funk lately-- cause of culture shock and some personal issues-- but it finally looks like things are getting better. The last 2 months or so have been awesome. I've been keeping uber busy. Doing what? well

paintball-
it was so awesome- I can't beleive I was so scared and worried about it. I managed to shoot a bunch of my friends in the second game, so that was cool. Getting shot wasn't as bad as I expected. Well, one shot was bad-- but it was at close range and in the chest. I managed to fire the same time he did- and got him in the hand. I'm sure that had to hurt- probably more so than my boob(cause I at least had 4 layers).

Halloween Party-
the same night as paintball so I was a bit exhausted. I didn't go all out and dress up as usual. Nor did I dress as a vampire, or anything gothic. I was a black cat. Well a poor man's black cat-- no tail, just ears, and face make up paired up with my black T and pants. Whatever-- do i really have to go all out every year? Well, yea, yea I usually do-- although it was kinda chill being comfortable for once. The party at Lite was pretty sweet. i stayed out kinda late, then walked over to a friend's house for the night.

The next day was packed full of volunteer events-- the FIA international day where I skipped out on my facepainting duties (after drawing a black blob rather than a black cat on a Japanese chick) and helped with name tag making. Followed by a halloween event in my town for the kids-- or should I say demonic spauwns. The kids were insane. As soon as I got there one boy grabbed my boob. I made sure to stop it right away cause I saw another reaching. Lucky for me, i conned 3 friends into helping me at the event. I felt really bad when the kids rounded together and decided to play "kill the monkey," as they hit, beat, and nearly stripped (yes stripped) my friend who was wearing a monkey suit. Guess it just wasn't a good day to be a monkey.

Prior to the horrible Harue Halloween thing- I had managed to convince my 3 volunteers to skip work the next day (Monday) so we can go toilet paper people's homes, and cause that way we can stay up and drink. Believe me, after the horrible kids that were there-- I think we all needed a drink. So we stopped at our local Genki, stocked up on some liquior and headed back- but not before taking pictures with the stock boys dressed in my fairy wings and antennas. =) The rest of the night was filled with drinking, car bombs-- my first to be exact, and video gaming. So yea, it was a good night.

Ok, I'm gonna skip ahead to the next event. I think that would be some random nights out at Bears, some girls nights, Matthew's birthday-- went to Nice Shot for that. Sweet! and then--

the slumber party-
17 girls brought over their pillows, futons, PJs, snacks, food, and drinks- and stayed at my place. It fun although by 2 am when they were putting on "Pretty Woman" I had had enough estrogin for one night. I even texted a few guys to see what they were up to so I could escape the girliness-- but no luck. Seems most of the guys called it an early night since all the girls were indispossed at mine. Fear not, I wasn't alone in my overdose of girliness-- Naomi, Donna, and Galina weren't into the movie either so we chilled in the other room and talked til about 5am.

the next day-
it was Kim's birthday, so in the afternoon- once all the girls left, I made Kim a -- shit what would I call it, one of those Japanese boards that people write messages on and give as gifts. Anyway, I drew a Japanese student on it and wrote some birthday greetings. Then I kinda lounged around till it was time to meet Kim and others for dinner at Dotcom, followed by margarittas and video games at her place. Do you see the pattern yet?

Ok, so that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago. What followed? hmm,

Deathnote:The Last Name-
I went to see the 2nd Deathnote movie with some friends. The movie was good- well as good as a Japanese movie can be (you know-- some of the acting sucked- in a humorous way). We also had some dinner together and took purikura.

Yeay, purikura! Ok, if you don't know-- purikura are the small sticker photos that students take here in Japan. You get in a booth, take some pics, and then decorate them, they print out and you can stick them on anything. You can even buy a book to keep your purikura in. I actually have one of these said books. God I'm suck a dork-- but whatever, purikura are cool!

Mid-Year Confrence-
So the confrence was similar to past years-- part was cool, part was lame- but either way it was 2 days away from work and with all the JETs in Fukui ken. I did two presentations this year. I guess they were both ok, although I was kinda disappointed with one. I don't like doing something half-ass and I defiantly did not have a solid presentation about Classroom Managment and Discipline. The other workshop was good- but it was the same topic that I presented last year so it was a breeze. I had actual help this year in both workshops- so I'm thankful to the guys for their work. =)
The big event of MYC is always the charity auction. Personally I didn't enjoy this year's auction as much as in past years- although it did raise more money than in previous years. I won the Mexican dinner-- so that's cool. Lookin forward to it cause Mel's cooking is amazing.
Of course there was an after party-- and it was cool. It was at the same place as our Sayonara party after party, Awa... somethign or other. I stayed for the nomihodai but passed on going to Bears. It was really strange having others trying to drag me out for once-- but I wasn't having it. Decided to head back to Kat's-- where I had been staying for 3 days straight.
Honestly- I think my favorite part of MYC was staying over Kat's and chilling with friends. My first year I used to spend almost every weekend at Kat's so it brought back some good memories. And you can't beat good dinner and drinking in with friends. We had a fun time- and I found a new drink that I like-- "horny schoolgirl." =P

Thanksgiving-
Well Thanksgiving fell on some weird Japanese holiday so I didn't have to work, but it was the day after the MYC party so I was feelin a bit outta it. I did get up early and headed back home. I lounged around most of the day until it was time to go to melissa's suprise birthday party at Zeniya's, which is the BEST resturant in all of Fukui and I had just eatten there 2 nights before-- but would go back whenever. So even though I didn't have a Thanksgiving dinner- I did meet with about 8 friends and had an amazing meal-- probably better than any thanksgiving meal I've had. So not a bad thanksgiving after all.
We did follow up with a "thanksgiving" meal" on that Sunday. There was no turkey but there was lots of other good food. I made some Chicken with peppers and pineapples-- and it came out well, dispite that I was feeling blah and not in the mood to do anything- let alone cook. Others made rye bread, mac and cheese, potatoe salad, chicken pot pie, salad, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. There was so much food and lots of left overs. Everyone left happy and there was no argueing-- hey wait, that's not a holiday? What happened to all the complaining and bitching- it just doesn't seem like a holiday without it! LOL, I'm just kidding.

Ok,- so that about wraps up the last month in a nutshell. Sure lots of other things happened-- but I don7t fell like writting them all down. I do have some pictures from the mentioned events, but... umm, yea-- i don't really feel like looking them up and loading them on here. Maybe I'l do it later- u know, put up some random pictures. =)

Later!
